Our board-certified pediatricians, with secondary board certifications in pediatric emergency medicine, staff CHKD’s Emergency Center Center 24 hours a day.
Additional board-certified pediatricians are dedicated to urgent and emergency care work alongside our pediatric emergency medicine trained staff to provide care in CHKD’s Emergency Center.

Information about the Division:
Clinical: Our pediatric emergency specialists provide care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to acutely ill or injured children at CHKD’s Emergency Center. Our Emergency Center is the region’s only facility with this level of pediatric emergency expertise. We care for over 40,000 children each year.
Education: Our physicians provide a 3 year fellowship training program for pediatricians who seek clarification in the pediatric emergency medicine specialty. This comprehensive program, one of 44 accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education nationally, prepares physicians for careers dedicated to the care of acutely ill children, as well as, research and medical education
Our physicians (all faculty of the Eastern Virginia Medical School) participate in the training of residents, medical students, and other health professional through bedside teaching, lectures, mentorship, etc.
Research: Our physicians remain dedicated to research endeavors that will improve the lives of children. Ongoing areas of special research interest within the division include: asthma, injury prevention and disaster preparedness
